RIKI YARBROUGH

Riki chooses subjects that are viewed as chaotic or uncomfortable on the surface but digs in to unearth the truth and order found beneath. By way of visually telling a story, she communicates principles that stand as anchors to the soul.

Bold color, threading lines, pattern, texture, and text all play a part in her work. Riki uses techniques of layering acrylic paint with elements of collage to create a story of interest, one that invites a closer look to find treasure and beauty incorporated within. The hidden richness in rugged landscapes, nature, daily life, and Scripture are often her chosen subjects.

“Every piece is a sojourn — a temporary stay in something I’m working through or have come to understand. In each layer I choose to yield my expectation and trust hope will come.” Riki’s work provides a window into that surrender.
